Tian Teng
Tian Teng (b. 1996, Shanghai) is a young contemporary artist who lives and works between Utrecht, the Netherlands, and London, UK. She earned a BA in Fine Art from the HKU in Utrecht in 2021 and is currently enrolled with the the Royal College of Art in London for her MA in Painting, starting in 2024.
Tian's photorealistic paintings explore societal barriers and capture minute details. She transitions from precise brushwork to bold strokes and thicker paint, experimenting with sharper contrasts to create works that elude traditional forms of light and composition. Her works draw from photographic references and subtle forms of imagination.
Exhibitions featuring her work include 'Edges of Perception' at Namuso Gallery (The Hague, 2024), ‘Through Timeless Spaces’ at Sense Gallery (Hong Kong, 2024), ‘Jump In’ at Capital C (Amsterdam, 2024), ‘Inner Façade’ at Stichting Heden (The Hague, 2023), the ‘Young Collectors Circle Edition Opening’ (Amsterdam, 2023), ‘Spouts III’ at Arti et Amicitae (Amsterdam, 2022), ‘‘Lef!’ at Mondriaanhuis Museum (Amersfoort, 2022), ‘Best of Graduates 2021’ at Galerie Ron Mandos (Amsterdam, 2021) and the ‘HKU Fine Art Graduation Show’ at De Pastoe Fabreik (Utrecht, 2021)
