Jaeyoung Park
Jaeyoung Park (b. 1973, Seoul) is a Korean visual artist best known for his innovative "Woolscape" series, hyper-realistic paintings that use wool strands as a central motif. His work explores themes of memory, human relationships, and the passage of time, with wool symbolizing the interconnectedness of life.
Park’s technique combines Western painting methods with Eastern philosophical ideas, particularly mindfulness and discipline. Through careful layering of brushstrokes that mimic the texture of wool, he creates a visual metaphor for the interwoven and transient nature of life. His process is reflective and meditative, with each strand representing moments of memory and personal connection.
The "Woolscape" series blends texture and thoughtful themes, offering a unique perspective on the relationship between the physical and the spiritual. Park has received numerous awards, including the Aesthetica Art Prize (York, UK, 2024, 2021, 2020), the London Art Biennale (London, UK, 2020), the SongEun Art Award (Seoul, Korea, 2005) and the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea (Seoul, Korea, 2000, 2001).
