For me, creating art is like writing a poem. Each stroke and material choice carries a story. My work transforms paper into landscapes that exist between reality and imagination, evoking memories, emotions, and a sense of timelessness. I hope to invite viewers on an inner journey, where they can find their own meanings within the textures and spaces of my work.

Lives and works in Paris, France
HyunJoung Lee is a South Korean artist based in Paris, widely recognized for her poetic fusion of Korean tradition and contemporary sensibility. After earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Sejong University in Seoul (1994), she trained as a goldsmith in France, a formative experience that continues to inform her attention to material, tactility, and precision.
Lee’s practice is rooted in traditional Korean materials, particularly hand-crafted hanji (Korean paper), Chinese ink and pigments. Through a meditative and labor-intensive process, she dissolves, reshapes, and layers the paper into richly textured surfaces that verge on the sculptural. Her works evoke elemental landscapes - mountains, water, and paths - transforming paper into sites where material and image converge. Balancing restraint with lyricism, Lee’s compositions reflect on time, memory, and natural rhythms, articulating a quiet dialogue between tradition and renewal, and between Eastern and Western visual languages.
HyunJoung Lee has exhibited globally and her works have been showcased at major art fairs in Asia and Europe, including Tokyo Gendai (2025, 2023), Art SG (Singapore, 2024-2025), Art Paris (2025), Art on Paper Brussels (2024), Kiaf Seoul (2023), and Asia Now Paris (2022–2023), among others. Her practice has also been presented at respected platforms such as the Salon d’Automne (Paris), Beyond Borders Art Exhibition (Hong Kong), and the International Paper Art Biennale (Shanghai). Earlier in her career, she received the Taylor Prize at Art Capital (Grand Palais, Paris, 2017), affirming her recognition within the French and international art scenes. Her works are held in private and public collections, including Cernuschi Museum in Paris, FR.
