The studio of… Haru K

Our artist Haru K is now featured on Gallery Viewer Magazine, the Netherlands’ leading platform for contemporary art. Her multilayered hanji-based works, deeply rooted in Buddhist painting traditions and personal memory, are now accessible to a broader audience through this platform.

The article highlights how Haru K reinterprets traditional landscape painting through a contemporary lens, where historical references are intertwined with imaginative spatial constructions. Central to his practice is the transformation of scale and perception—most notably through the use of oversized food motifs set against expansive, dreamlike landscapes, as well as the introduction of small human figures that navigate these constructed worlds.

Through this visual language, Haru K explores the relationship between materiality, memory, and cultural imagery, positioning his work between tradition and contemporary visual culture. The feature provides insight into how his practice expands the possibilities of landscape painting into a multidimensional field of perception and narrative.
