Overview

GALLERY EXHIBITION | Namuso Gallery is delighted to announce Dual Horizons: A Dialogue Between Hyunjoung Lee and Raquel Maulwurf, a duo exhibition that brings together the visions of two exceptional female artists. This exhibition examines humanity’s evolving relationship with nature, exploring themes of fragility, resilience, creation, and destruction through their distinct artistic practices.

Hyunjoung Lee (b. 1972), a Paris-based Korean artist, transforms hanji (traditional Korean paper) into textured, meditative landscapes. Her works, enriched with natural pigments and Chinese ink, embody a serene reflection on the harmony and complexity of the natural world. Drawing from both Eastern and Western artistic traditions, Hyunjoung reimagines timeless natural forms, offering poetic reinterpretations that inspire a deeper appreciation for the delicate beauty of nature.

Raquel Maulwurf (b. 1975), a Spanish-born Amsterdam based artist known for her monumental charcoal works, confronts the devastating power of ecological disasters and the destruction wrought by human activity. Working on museum board, she scratches and scars the surface with sharp objects, capturing the violence of natural forces and the traces of human intervention. By distilling the essence of these events into stark, evocative imagery, Raquel asks profound questions about humanity’s impact on the environment.

Together, Dual Horizons creates a powerful dialogue between Hyunjoung’s serene, harmonious landscapes and Raquel’s raw, urgent depictions of environmental disruption. By juxtaposing their works, the exhibition highlights the interconnectedness of creation and destruction, encouraging audiences to reflect on the fragile balance that sustains our world. This timely exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature resonates with today’s urgent global conversations on climate and environmental stewardship.
