Taco (Yutong) Huo

Taco (Yutong) Huo (b. 1993, China) is a painter based in the Netherlands. Drawing on his background in Biological Sciences, Huo approaches culture as a metabolic system through which experience is transformed into images, rituals, residues, and symbolic forms.
His oil paintings are built through layering, displacement, covering, erosion, and reconstruction. Bodies, animals, ruins, domestic objects, and architectural fragments appear as unstable forms shaped by repetition, material pressure, and cultural memory. Huo’s work follows the afterlife of symbols: the ways they persist, mutate, and continue to operate after their original authority has weakened. Informed by biological thought, shamanic ritual, and the afterlives of cultural forms, his practice examines how meaning survives without certainty and how painting can hold unresolved questions of existence, perception, and authority.
Huo's work has been presented in group exhibitions in the Netherlands, including at Kunstkantine, Sign Project Space, Stichting B93, Artos, and de Möllerwerf, among others.
